Someone recently pointed out to me that the Union Catalog can be accessed via the California Map Society’s homepage (thanks Bill). (Note the username and password is given to access the online collection.) There are over 10,000 map images on the site:

The Union Catalogue is an internet catalog of 3761 maps of California and the World from three collections: The Huntington Library, the Pasadena Museum of History and the Altadena Historical Society.  Each record contains 65 fields to help describe the map as fully as possible. The entire database can be searched in several ways, and navigation instructions are included in the help menu.

The California Map Society has a small collection of Images and Stories of some maps online as well, with some zoomed in sections included for each map to provide a little more detail, at least partially, of most of the maps shown.
